Doug Durlacher received his Bachelor of Social Work degree from Shippensburg University with a Minor in Theatre Arts and a Master of Arts degree in Theatre with a Directing Concentration from Oklahoma State University. He is a founding ensemble member of Genesis Shakespeare Festival in Quincy, IL, and a co-founder of The Bula Rasa Project in Philadelphia, PA. He has served as the Production Manager of the World Premier National Tour of the Barry Harman musical Jammin’ With Pops for Encore Attrractions, the Properties Designer for the World Premier of Jambulu by Mary Fengar Gail with Inertact Theatre Company in Philadelphia, and has been the Box Office Manager for the Palm Canyon Theatre Company in Palm Springs, CA. He has also been an Associate Artistic Director with the Gamut Theatre Group. Doug has been certified as an Actor/Combatant in Hand to Hand, Rapier and Dagger, and Quarterstaff with the Society of American Fight Directors. In addition to teaching many stage combat workshops, Doug has also taught courses in Theatre and Acting at Oklahoma State University, Shippensburg University, and the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia.
As an actor Doug has appeared on stages across the country. Some of his favorite roles include: Macbeth (Macbeth-Shakespeare Ventures, CT), Trogg (Crown Thy Good, World Premier-The Bula Rasa Project, PA), Lion (The Wizard of Oz-Mount Washington Valley Theatre Company, NH), Sir Arthur Barlow (The Lost Colony Outdoor Drama-The Lost Colony, NC) Gooper (Cat On A Hot Tin Roof-Palm Canyon Theatre, CA), Caliban in The Tempest, Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Banquo in Macbeth (Gamut Theatre Group, PA), Orsino/Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night, Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Polonius/1st Clown in Hamlet, Antonio in Merchant of Venice (Genesis Shakespeare Festival, IL & MO), The Sea Captain (The Mary Celeste, World Premier-Greenwich Street Theatre, NYC), Torvald in A Doll’s House, Michael in Dancing at Lughnasa, TR in TinTypes (Oklahoma State University, OK), John Hinkley, Jr. in Assassins, Hermocrate in Triumph of Love, Adam in Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, Ensemble in Big Sky Reckoning (Shippensburg University, PA).
As a Director some of Doug’s credits include: Orphans, True West, The Real Thing, Hey! That’s Amelia Earhart Down There (World Premier), Arsenic and Old Lace, Sweet Charity, Much Ado About Nothing, Henry V, Assistant Director of Peter Pan (Bill Layne, Director). Doug has also choreographed fights or stage violence for such plays as, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, American Buffalo, True West, Macbeth, Art, and many others.
Doug is also a singer-songwriter and has written original music for several productions including Big Sky Reckoning (Shippensburg University), A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Much Ado About Nothing (Genesis Shakespeare Festival).
Doug is currently the Co-Artistic Director of Inertia Productions, Inc. in New York City.
As a youth Doug was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout with Silver Palm. His leadership and volunteerism were honored with two distinguished awards for citizenship, one from the Union League of Philadelphia and one from the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. To this day these achievements rank among the highest in his life.
